Hundreds of Students Supported Through Employability Workshops in Derby

August 01, 2025 | Emma Jaglowski

Hundreds of sixth form students in Derby have taken part in a series of employability workshops designed to boost confidence, develop key skills and open doors to future careers in the real estate sector.

The initiative, known as “Reach Derby,” was delivered by Logicor in partnership with The Talent Foundry, a social mobility charity focused on helping young people from underserved communities unlock their potential and connect with employers.

Now in its third year, the programme brought together Year 12 students with experienced professionals from across the real estate industry. Through a series of interactive workshops, students were introduced to a wide range of career opportunities while gaining practical insight into the day-to-day work of industry professionals.

The year 12 students had the chance to engage with employees from multiple departments including Asset Management, Legal, HR, Finance, Marketing, Sustainability and Business Technology. The sessions were designed to simulate real workplace challenges, allowing students to develop essential skills such as teamwork, organisation, problem-solving and presentation.

The impact of the programme has been significant, feedback revealed that 83% of students felt more aware of their own skills and talents following the workshops, while 86% reported a greater understanding of how to apply those skills to achieve their ambitions.

Following the success of this year’s programme, Logicor and The Talent Foundry plan to continue their partnership in 2026, with the next phase set to take place in Leicestershire.

The initiative forms part of Logicor’s wider commitment to community engagement, particularly in areas surrounding its developments such as Derby507.

For Logicor, Reach Derby was an important opportunity to focus on supporting the local communities and young talent located near one of Logicor’s latest UK developments, Derby507. The workshops seek to increase students’ confidence and core skills and help them discover their passions through interactive and engaging activities.

The students have a better idea of different employment roles. They have developed knowledge about how companies work, operate and are set up. They built skills in teamwork, organisation, problem-solving, planning and presenting. Students who would never normally speak in front of others were confident and happy to do so.
